Transformation of organic sulfur and its functional groups in nantong and laigang coal under microwave irradiation

Abstract: The microwave irradiation experiment of Nantong coal (NTC) and Laigang coal (LGC) has been carried out in a microwave oven and the transformation of organic sulfur and its functional groups was investigated via compact sulfur tester and Fourier transform infrared spectra. The dielectric properties of coal sample are also measured by an Agilent N5244A network analyzer. The result shows that a certain amount of organic sulfur in both NTC and LGC is transformed into iron sulfide, sulfate, and sulfur-containing … Show more

“…11 The microwave irradiation experiment of Nantong coal (NTC) and Laigang coal (LGC) has been carried out in a microwave oven, and the transformation of organic sulfur and its functional groups was investigated via a compact sulfur tester and Fourier-transform infrared spectra. 12 Although the modeling of the desulfurization of coal has been analyzed, the main goal of this study was to avoid high nonlinearity of the mathematical approaches by using soft computing methodology. Soft computing methods do not require knowledge of the internal system, and these methods can provide a compact solution for multivariable problems.…”

“…The researchers desulfurized under microwave irradiation. After treatment, most of the FeS 2 had been transferred, while -SH and S-S needed more time to rupture than S=O when the microwave power was 1000 W (Wu et al, 2019). Gürü oxidized pulverized coal through nitric acid solution, and the conversion rate was only 38.7% (Gürü et al, 2007).…”

“…In accordance with the literature review, 34 under the condition of microwave and auxiliary agent, the sulfur-containing structure is gradually oxidized, and the strength of the C S bond decreases and breaks. 35,36 The reaction mechanism of sulfur structure removal from coal is shown in Figure 7. The C S bond in benzenethiol is broken, and SO 2 and H 2 S are formed to escape, as shown in Figure 7a.…”
