Transferring the Emergence Profile from the Provisional to the Final Restoration

Abstract: The application of these simple, yet important, techniques can not only help achieve optimal esthetics but also contribute to the maintenance of peri-implant health. Especially in esthetically demanding cases-such as in implant restorations in the anterior area or in cases with high lip line-their application can lead to a more predictable final result.

“…The relationship between dental ceramics and the surrounding periodontal structures may nonetheless become challenging for both the clinician and lab technician. Optimal esthetic results can be achieved through careful planning, taking into account the peculiarities of each clinical case, particularly in terms of the gingival tissue, which can be a powerful compromising factor …”

“…Gingival tissue manipulation using provisional crowns may overcome the esthetic problem during the period of provisionalization; however, transferring such details with precision and reproducibility to the laboratory technician is a much more daunting task, since the gingival tissue is highly resilient and rapidly changes upon removal of the provisional crowns. Considering that, commonly, the conditioned tissue is transferred filling up the gingival concave spaces after removal of provisional crowns with low shrinkage acrylic resin followed by the metal framework placement on the abutment teeth . Thus, the purpose of this report is to describe a novel technique to transfer the features of the conditioned soft tissue onto a master cast, based on a previously edentulous area of the maxilla.…”
