This paper analyzed the content, pollution level, pollution source and input of cyanide in Jiaozhou Bay 1983. Results showed that cyanide contents in surface waters were 0.02-0.46 μg L -1 , which were much lower than the guide line of cyanide in Grade I (5.00 μg L -1 ) of National Sea Water Quality Standard (GB 3097-1997), indicating that this bay was very slight polluted by cyanide in 1983. In according to the spatial distribution of cyanide, we found that river flow and marine terminals were the major sources, whose input strengths were 0.14-0.46 μg L -1 and 0.42 μg L -1 , respectively. Cyanide in Jiaozhou Bay was mainly generated by human activities, and source-management was essential to environmental controls in Jiaozhou Bay.

We analyzed the seasonal variation, horizontal distribution, vertical distribution and background value of cyanide in the bay mouth of Jiaozhou Bay in 1983. Cyanide contents in the bay mouth were changing a lot by means of vertical water's effect. Cyanide contents in both surface and bottom waters were in orders of summer > autumn > spring. At spatial scale, the horizontal distributions of cyanide in different seasons were consistent, and were decreasing from the inside of the bay mouth to the bay mouth and then the ouside of the bay mouth. At variation scale, the variation ranges of cyanide contents in boto surface and bottom waters were consistent. At vertical scale, the horizontal distributions of cyanide in surface and bottom waters were consistent in case of high cyanide contents, yet were closed in case of low cyanide contents. At region scale, the differences of cyanide contents in surface and bottom waters were determined bay the inputs of cyanide. The seasonal variations and spatial distributions of cyanide were revealing the horizontal water's effect and vertical water's effect. The background values of cyanide in the bay were 0.02-0.22 μg L-1 .

Based on the investigation data on cyanide in bottom waters in the bay mouth of Jiaozhou Bay in 1983, we analyzed the contents, pollution levels, and distributions of cyanide. Results showed that cyanide contents in bottom waters in 1983 were 0.02-0.34 μg L-1 , and were much lower than guide line of cyanide in Grade I (5.00 μg L-1) of National Sea Water Quality Standard (GB 3097-1997), indicated that the pollution levels of cyanide in this bay in 1983 were very low. There were high value regions in the inside of the bay mouth, yet were low value regions in the out side of the bay mouth, indicated that there were aggregation and divergence processes of cyanide in the bay. Cyanide contents were decreasing from the inside of the bay mouth (0.06-0.34 μg L-1) to the bay mouth and then the outside of the bay mouth (0.02-0.04 μg L-1). The substances could be transported to everywhere even the input of cyanide was low content, and the contents of cyanide would be homogeneity in waters. These findings are strongly proving the homogeneity of the ocean.
