Abstract: The use of dissolving microneedles presents a highly desirable approach for transdermal drug delivery, offering enhanced patient safety and adherence. This study aimed to assess the release rate of catechin when combined with various constituents in a poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) microneedle patch. The impact of incorporating 2% dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO), 5% carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC), 5% fructose, and 5% sucrose into the PVA microneedle patch was investigated. The manufactured microneedles underwent comprehe… Show more

“…The presence of GMs within the PVA matrix can significantly impact the swelling behavior of microneedles by serving as additional sites for fluid absorption, enhancing the porosity of the microneedles . PVA microneedles, being hydrogels, passively absorb fluids like skin interstitial fluid, with the microspheres enhancing this capacity . The concentration of microspheres can significantly influence the swelling behavior of PVA microneedles.…”

Swelling, in this context, refers to the microneedles' capacity to absorb fluid, impacting their mechanical properties, drug release kinetics, and insertion characteristics.…”
