Transcriptomes analysis of Aeromonas molluscorum Av27 cells exposed to tributyltin (TBT): Unravelling the effects from the molecular level to the organism

Abstract: Aeromonas molluscorum Av27 cells were exposed to 0, 5 and 50 μM of TBT and the respective transcriptomes were obtained by pyrosequencing. Gene Ontology revealed that exposure to 5 μM TBT results in a higher number of repressed genes in contrast with 50 μM of TBT, where the number of over-expressed genes is greater. At both TBT concentrations, higher variations in gene expression were found in the functional categories associated with enzymatic activities, transport/binding and oxidation-reduction. A number of … Show more

“…The possibility that TBT might directly affect microbial physiology is supported by studies in bacteria, fungi, and other environmental microbial communities (41)(42)(43)(44)(45)(46)(47)(48)(49). Variable levels of microbial susceptibility to TBT have been linked to differences in TBT adsorption, bioaccumulation, enzymatic transformation, efflux and other adaptations (47,(50)(51)(52)(53)(54)(55)(56)(57)(58). It is therefore possible that TBT could also directly impact the composition and activity of host-associated microbial communities.…”

“…It has been proposed that the mode of action (MoA) of TBT is via covalent binding with retinoid X receptors (RXR) (le Maire et al, 2009). Although its effects at phenotypical, organismal and transcriptomic levels have been explained in other species (Baker and J o u r n a l P r e -p r o o f Hardiman, 2014;Cruz et al, 2015b;Zhang et al, 2018), not much is known on its transcriptomic effects in zebrafish eleutheroembryos. This fish species is considered an excellent vertebrate model for human and environmental toxicology, including endocrine disruption, thanks to its easy rearing and to the characteristics of their freeswimming late embryonic stages (Kimmel et al, 1995a;Parichy et al, 2009;Raldúa and Piña, 2014;Scholz and Mayer, 2008;Segner, 2009;Stegeman et al, 2010;Strähle et al, 2012).…”

“…As proteínas codificadas por estes genes desempenham papéis importantes na resposta das células de A. ferrooxidans ao NaCl. Este tipo de validação tem sido utilizado em vários trabalhos (Yoder-Himes et al, 2009;Croucher & Thomson, 2010;Fu et al, 2014;Cruz et al, 2015). Os resultados são mostrados na Tabela 3.3 e na Figura 3.5.…”
