Transcranial magnetic stimulation in the semi-quantitative, pre-operative assessment of patients undergoing spinal deformity surgery

Abstract: The congruency of mMEP and eMEP and of mCMCT and eCMCT suggests that these measurements may be used comparatively and semi-quantitatively for the comparison of pre-, intra-, and post-operative spinal cord function in spinal deformity surgery.

It should be, however, remembered that trains of stimuli applied transcranially during neuromonitoring may cause the temporal and perhaps the spatial summation of the efferent impulses to the spinal motoneurones, which are mediated polysynaptically, and therefore, the latency and amplitude parameters of MEPs may show the variability [34].…”
