Transcranial direct current stimulation of the left dorsolateral prefrontal cortex can reduce the detrimental effect of stress on working memory.

Abstract: Recent studies have shown that stress affects working memory, a phenomenon observed together with a decrease in the activity of the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (dlPFC). Neurostimulation techniques, such as transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS), now make it possible to influence the activity of the cortex. The present study explores the possibility that exogenous stimulation targeting the dlPFC may alleviate the detrimental effect of stress on working memory. Thirty-four participants took part in 2 … Show more

“…There are multiple studies based on knowledge of substance-related addictions ( Addicott, 2020 ; Votaw et al, 2020 ), however, research related to behavioral addiction is much more scarce, highlighting those focused on understanding the relationship between addictive behavior and activation of the Dorsolateral Prefrontal Cortex and its effects on working memory and inhibition of the control of impulsive responses ( Alizadehgoradel et al, 2020 ; Maheux-Caron et al, 2020 ). One of the behavioral addictions that has attracted the most attention in recent years is pornography addiction.…”
