Transcatheter Tricuspid Valve Intervention: Coaptation Devices

Abstract: Transcatheter tricuspid valve intervention (TTVI) has recently emerged as an alternative for the treatment of severe tricuspid regurgitation (TR). Multiple percutaneous devices have been developed in the last decade with promising early results. Among them, the coaptation devices are designed to reduce TR severity by valve leaflet plication or occupying the regurgitant orifice with a spacer. To date, the MitraClip/TriClip devices (Abbott, Santa Clara, CA, USA), the PASCAL system (Edwards Lifesciencies, Irvine,… Show more

“…Preprocedural transthoracic and transoesophageal echocardiography were performed in all patients for assessing TR severity and suitability for edge-to-edge device implantation. Patients were treated predominantly with the Triclip system [7] but Mitraclip was also used in a compassionate and/or off-label use [8]. Details regarding the TTVr procedure and special features of the edge-to-edge device have been published elsewhere [9].…”

“…The FORMA system (Edwards Lifesciences, Irvine, CA, USA) is designed to increase leaflet coaptation, occupying the regurgitant orifice with a spacer [39]. A guide is advanced through the subclavian or axillary vein and anchored in the apex of the right ventricle.…”

“…51 Unfortunately, there is a lack of systematic reviews comparing the different coaptation devices for TV repair. There is a recent review on coaptation devices 52 which discussed the limited literature on the outcomes from each of these devices. This showed the first comparative study 53 between the Mitraclip and Pascal techniques, concluding similar results between both.…”
