“…However, there is no strong evidence supporting the etiology of renal AV malformations as congenital. They are generally found in adult patients (1,8,13). Recently, several studies regarding the development of cerebral AV malformations suggest they may involve an interaction between genetic (congenital) factors regulating vasculogenesis and environmental (acquired) factors such as ischemia, hypoxia, inflammation, and trauma (14)(15)(16)(17).…”

“…Fast, durable fistula occlusion without complication is the usual outcome. 1,[13][14][15][16][17][18][19] AVPs have also been used to occlude or to reduce flow in hemodialysis fistulas. 20 Complications after AVP fistula embolization are rare.…”

“…14 Postembolization syndrome after renal arteriovenous fistula embolization was reported by Nassiri. 16 Complications after APF embolization with AVPs have not been reported. However, portal vein thrombosis has been observed after APF embolization with glue and coils.…”

“…Smaller studies report higher technical and clinical success rates ( 36 , 39 ). Specifically for renal arteriovenous fistulas, embolization intervention is lasting, with one study showing a cease of symptoms over a 10-year study period ( 40 ).…”
