Transaction Propagation on Permissionless Blockchains: Incentive and Routing Mechanisms

Abstract: Existing permissionless blockchain solutions rely on peer-to-peer propagation mechanisms, where nodes in a network transfer transaction they received to their neighbors. Unfortunately, there is no explicit incentive for such transaction propagation. Therefore, existing propagation mechanisms will not be sustainable in a fully decentralized blockchain with rational nodes. In this work, we formally define the problem of incentivizing nodes for transaction propagation. We propose an incentive mechanism where each… Show more

“…On the blockchain network, the rewards of mining constitute of two parts: (1) the reward of mining a block, and (2) the incentive of recording a transaction on the block [9] . On the main-chain, we normalized the reward and incentive of player's mining into 1 as the earning of mining.…”

“…Incentive mechanisms also need to be considered for the storage providers. It aims to motivate providers to contribute to protecting the privacy of the users as suggested by [34][35][36]. Furthermore, it is important to carefully consider the type of block to be used including parameters directly involved in the system such as block size and type of consensus, to name a few.…”
