Introduction: Dental fear is a common occurrence that responds to the stress induced by various dental procedures. Its intensity varies from nervousness and anxiety to dental phobia, and it is considered the main barrier to successful completion of treatment. This research aims to analyse the relationship of the formation of dental fear between mother and their 7 to 9-year-old children. Methods: The research design was analytical studies with a cross-sectional survey technique, with samples chosen by the simple random sampling method. Thirty-five mothers and children aged 7-9 years who attended Neglasari 2 and Neglasari 5 Public Elementary School, Sadang Serang, Bandung, were the respondents. This study used a questionnaire called the Dental Subscale of the Children's Fear Survey Schedule (CFSS-DS), tested and proven to be a reliable and valid psychometric instrument for dental fear evaluation in children in Bahasa Indonesia. This study was analysed using Spearman's rank correlation coefficient. Results: The mean score of the mothers was 24.314, and the mean score of the children was 23.571. The correlation value was 0.765. The figure scales in the 'strong' criteria. Conclusion: There is a strong relationship between the formation of dental fear in mothers and their 7-9 years-old children.

Psychometric analysis and reliability of the dental treatment motivation scale for Indonesian pregnant women

This study aimed to obtain the results of psychometric analysis and reliability of the dental treatment motivation scale (DTMS), which was adapted cross-culturally for pregnant women in Indonesia. A descriptive survey was conducted with 149 pregnant women at a maternal clinic in Bandung City, Indonesia, in December 2020. Convenience sampling was chosen as the sampling technique after the inclusion and exclusion criteria had been fulfilled. Two English experts initially translated the DTMS questionnaire from English into Indonesian and the translated questionnaire was then reviewed by four expert panels, which were modified afterwards. The validity test was carried out using the exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses and goodness of fit index (GFI). The internal reliability analysis used Cronbach's alpha, and the test-retest was conducted using Pearson's correlation coefficient. The psychometric analysis results were obtained from four testing stages. The first stage was the initial eigenvalue assessment, and the cumulative percentage value was >60%. The second stage was the exploratory factor analysis, with a loading factor of >0.3. The third stage consisted of the confirmatory factor analysis, forming two components of the factor structure (intrinsic and extrinsic motivations). Finally, the fourth stage was the GFI assessment, which showed the good fit model with a value of 0.903. Very high internal consistency reliability ranged from 0.985 to 0.990; the test-retest p-value of Pearson's correlation coefficient was 0.000. In conclusion, the Indonesian version of the DTMS proved to be a reliable and valid instrument to measure Indonesian pregnant women's motivation to seek oral health treatment.

Objective Emotion is a feeling that someone can feel. Emotions are generally shown through behavior or facial expressions. Emotions are essential for dental treatment because there is a relation between the emotions felt by children and the success of the dental treatment that the dentist will give. This study aimed to describe variables of emotions about dental treatment. Materials and Methods Descriptive analysis using a convenience nonrandom sampling technique was conducted on 58 preschool children aged 3 to 6 years old who came for dental treatment at the Bandung Dental Center in Bandung, Indonesia. The instrument used to ask children how they feel about dental care is a 7-item questionnaire derived from the children's fear survey scale-dental subscale. Meanwhile, the media used by children to respond was a card with facial expressions from the Facial Expression Emotion Scale. Results The results showed that only participants aged 4 responded with one type of emotion (happy), while the other age groups gave various emotional responses. Fear emotion began to appear in the age group of 5 and 6 years and only in girls, while emotions of anger also appeared in girls and only at the age of 5. Conclusion In this study, the emotions that children choose about dental care at the Bandung Dental Center clinic are happy emotions. The emotions of fear and sadness were chosen more by girl participants, while none of the boy participants chose the emotion of fear. This sad and fearful response is associated with invasive dental treatment. Anger was chosen as a child's response dominantly because of the parents' invitation to the dentist.
