“…School administrators cite the lack of qualified teachers as a major problem in program implementation (Benell, 1968;Yarber et al, 1981) and parents report that teacher qualifications are their most serious concern in this area (Clawar, 1977;Schiller, 1977). Consequently, several studies involving educators, school administrators, parents, and students have attempted to identify essential criteria for those involved in such instruction (e.g., Carrera, 1972;Juhasz, 1970; Kirby, Alter, and Scales, 1979). Results of these studies suggest that, in addition to possessing positive and comfortable attitudes about sexuality, teachers should have some background in such areas as biological science, health education, coun-seling/guidance, human development, marriage, and the family.…”
