Training rehabilitation teams in sexual health care: A description and evaluation of a multidisciplinary intervention

Abstract: These findings clearly indicate that rehabilitation workers can benefit from a custom fit design team training on sexual health care. Strategically working with the modus operandi of a multidisciplinary team, such as task definition, determining pro- and reactive roles and formal agreements, appears to be of importance in integrating sexual health in the overall care for patients. “…They defined sexual health as “a state of physical, emotional, mental, and social well-being in relation to sexuality; it is not merely the absence of disease, dysfunction, or infirmity” ( WHO, 2018 ). In addition, health-care professionals often wait for patients to mention concerns about sexuality ( Pieters et al, 2018 ).…”

“…Our findings confirm the intuitive association of sexual dysfunction in patients with some of the most disabling chronic neurologic diseases. We believe that the performance of other studies targeted to a better understanding of the pathologic pathways involved, and the offering of better therapeutic options, would be highly advisable 37 . We therefore believe that sexuality should be addressed during regular consultations, because through the diagnosis of sexual problems, neurologists can offer both advice and treatment, thus improving the patient's quality of living.…”

To be able to talk about complete sexual health, sexual functions must be fully functioning (2).…”
