Training Model in Laparoscopic Urologic Surgery - Laparoscopic Cure of Bladder Injuries in Pig Animal Models

Abstract

Bladder injuries occur either alone, or associated with urethra injuries during gynecological and obstetric interventions. Experimental urological laparoscopic surgery using porcine model has been practiced for two decades aiming to improve laparoscopic surgical technique, for surgical skill development and for the reliability-check of intervention procedure. We operated four cystotomies followed by laparoscopic approach cystorraphy. This study on porcine animal model demonstrates that minimally invasive surgery can be a viable solution for the incidental intraoperative lesions of the vesical bladder, the laparoscopic surgical interventions on experimental animals being a viable instrument for training. The experimental porcine model represents a significant progress in the minimally invasive treatment of urological complications after gynecologic and/or obstetric surgery.
