Training Load, Immune Status, and Clinical Outcomes in Young Athletes: A Controlled, Prospective, Longitudinal Study

Abstract: Introduction: Beside positive effects on athlete's health, competitive sport can be linked with an increased risk of illness and injury. Because of high relative increases in training, additional physical and psychological strains, and an earlier specialization and professionalization, adolescent athletes needs an increased attention. Training can alter the immune system by inducing a temporary immunosuppression, finally developing infection symptoms. Previous studies identified Epstein Barr Virus (EBV) as pot… Show more

“…Nevertheless, the results in TL-CT for AG (321.57 ± 3.34 in T1 and 376 ± 5.87 in T2) showed values significant different from BG (325.07 ± 6.51 in T2 and 81.25 ± 7.32 in T3). This would indicate that golfers in the BG were carrying out the CT sessions in a less sense of fatigue, resulting in greater increases on performance factors possibly due to a less stress (Blume et al, 2018).…”

“…Overall, immune system functions improve with moderate exercise but a training that is too intensive can lead to altered immune functions 31 . In this regard, the alterations to innate immunity due to intensive training are not well established 32 . For this reason, we aimed to analyse the innate immune response in two programmes of intensive training in rats and compare them to that in sedentary animals, as well as to evaluate different time points after the longer training.…”

Improvements obtained in CMJ (5.08% for AG and 9.38% for BG) are agree with previous studies (Alvarez et al, 2012;Driggers & Sato, 2018;Kenny et al, 2017), confirming that a twice-weekly strength training program, using the protocol outlined, was associated with enhancements in driving performance (Wells et al, 2019), lower limb explosive strength and rotational power.…”
