The network of rural roads covers different types of terrain, including forest areas, pastures, arable land and sparsely populated areas. The safety of people and animals is a priority in traffic on these roads. Early detection of pedestrians, animals and other moving objects along the road can significantly reduce the risk of accidents. As part of this research, a sensor system is being developed that can detect characteristics of living things in motion, such as unexpectedly crossing the road without clear signs. Such timely detection of moving objects enables adequate preventive measures and reduces potential traffic accidents. The consequences of traffic accidents of this type can cause serious damage to animals and people property, and road infrastructure. The topicality of this problem at the spatial and seasonal level is emphasized in studies that identify the hotspots of these accidents. Factors such as traffic characteristics and road infrastructure are key to modeling protective systems on rural roads. The presented study investigates the deployment of sensor nodes and LoRAWAN gateways for wildlife detection on rural roads, with the aim of reducing the risk of traffic accidents caused by Wildlife-Vehicle Collisions.

Link failure refers to the failure between two connections/nodes in a perfectly working simulation scenario at a particular instance. Transport layer routing protocols form an important basis of setting up a simulation, with Transmission Control Protocol and User Datagram Protocol being the primary of them. The research makes use of Network Simulator v2.35 to conduct different simulation experiments for link failure and provide validation results. In this paper, both protocols, TCP and UDP are compared based on the throughput of packets delivered from one node to the other constrained to the condition that for a certain interval of time the link fails and the simulation time remains the same for either of the protocols. Overall, this analysis is based on determining the performance of both protocols with a fixed packet size and bandwidth. This analysis, performed with the help of NS2 and XGraph, shows that the transport layer protocol, UDP acts better than TCP in terms of throughput. This opens the questions to other fellow researchers of how different metrics act in both the cases when a link failure occurs. In UDP, the throughput drops less as compared to the TCP at the time of the link failure regardless of if simulation was executed for different time periods i.e., 70,100,300,900 and 1000 seconds. The link failure interval is also varied from 10,15,20,40,350 and 440 seconds to generalize and validate the performance of the network during the interval.

Wireless technology is transforming the future of transportation through the development of the Internet of Vehicles (IoV). However, intricate security challenges are intertwined with technological progress: Vehicular ad hoc Networks (VANETs), a core component of IoV, face security issues, particularly the Black Hole Attack (BHA). This malicious attack disrupts the seamless flow of data and threatens the network's overall reliability; also, BHA strategically disrupts communication pathways by dropping data packets from legitimate nodes altogether. Recognizing the importance of this challenge, we have introduced a new solution called ad hoc On-Demand Distance Vector-Reputation-based mechanism Local Outlier Factor (AODV-RL). The significance of AODV-RL lies in its unique approach: it verifies and confirms the trustworthiness of network components, providing robust protection against BHA. An additional safety layer is established by implementing the Local Outlier Factor (LOF), which detects and addresses abnormal network behaviors. Rigorous testing of our solution has revealed its remarkable ability to enhance communication in VANETs. Specifically, Our experimental results achieve message delivery ratios of up to 94.25% and minimal packet loss ratios of just 0.297%. Based on our experimental results, the proposed mechanism significantly improves VANET communication reliability and security. These results promise a more secure and dependable future for IoV, capable of transforming transportation safety and efficiency.
