Traditional Chinese Medicine Zheng in the Era of Evidence-Based Medicine: A Literature Analysis

Abstract: Zheng, which is also called a syndrome or pattern, is the basic unit and a key concept of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) theory. Zheng can be considered a further stratification of patients when it is integrated with biomedical diagnoses in clinical practice to achieve higher efficacies. In an era of evidence-based medicine, confronted with the vast and increasing volume of TCM data, there is an urgent need to explore these resources effectively using techniques of knowledge discovery in databases. The app… Show more

“…In contrast, treating menopausal symptoms by TCM is based on the ‘syndrome (Zheng) identification' or ‘constitution differentiation'. Since 2000, the number of articles on TCM syndromes has dramatically increased [11]. This has prompted the need for clinical studies on TCM to measure and report results [12], and additional research should be conducted on the constitution of TCM in implementing translational medicine [13].…”

“…gyűjtemények kutatásával vált lehetségessé. A zseng meghatározásához genomikai, transzkriptomikai, proteomikai és metabolomikai kutatások illeszthetők, amelyek segítségével már biztonságo-san kezelhetővé válnak az eltérő megközelítésből adódó diagnózisok [6,19].…”

“…On the other hand, the medical service based on TCM ZHENG differentiation may be difficult to be understood in the west. Therefore, in the era of complementary and alternative medicine, TCM ZHENG has encountered a hard nut to crack from biomedical science in the world due to a shortage of evidence-based theoretical interpretations and solid proof of ZHENG-based effect [6]. So it is inevitable to explore the biological basis of TCM ZHENG differentiation.…”
