The Covid-19 pandemic has caused an economic crisis that has spread across all sectors. The one of food crisis does not originate from a supply crisis but from a purchasing power crisis and distribution barriers. Agribusiness cooperatives take an important role to support farmers in managing finances and food stocks. This study aims to analyze the performance of agribusiness cooperatives in East Java Province to maintain their identity and developing business strategies in the Covid-19 pandemic. The sample in this study were three agribusiness cooperatives in Nganjuk Regency. Methodologically, the analysis is carried out by assessing the identity of the cooperative using the Development Ladder Assessment method and assessing the corporate business strategy. Both measurements were carried out to obtain an overview of the strategic policy choices of agribusiness cooperatives in facing the crisis. Some identity issues include membership management and member participation which has decreased during the pandemic due to limited social interaction. During the pandemic, agribusiness cooperatives also strengthened business strategies with implement a human resource strategy by restructuring human resources and rearranging wage and incentive policies. The financial strategy is also carried out by tightening credit terms and increasing capital from external sources.

The rapid development of farmers' cooperatives in rural China cannot be separated from government support. To ensure the growth of farmers' cooperatives, the Chinese government uses it as a key performance indicator for its local institutions. Superficially, rural China's cooperative population and membership size witnessed rapid growth during the first decade after the Farmers' Specialized Cooperatives Law was enacted in 2007; however, such government intervention also leads to non-standard phenomena due to market distortion.Using nationally representative survey data from 504 cooperatives in Jiangsu, Jilin, and Sichuan provinces, this paper provides a reliable estimate of the "shell cooperative" rate around 2014. The empirical study sheds further light on the role of government during the period of rapid but chaotic growth by a subset containing 241 marketing cooperatives. Results show that direct administrative intervention leads to the emergence of many shell cooperatives (approximately 37%). Further study also confirms that task-oriented policy support is only positively associated with the nominal coverage ratio but has no significant relationship with cooperatives' function. This study provides new insights into the formation of shell cooperatives and suggests that direct administrative intervention may not be a good strategy

PurposeThe purpose of this study is to look at the factors that influence the success of Indonesian cooperatives.Design/methodology/approachThis study employs a two-stage quantitative approach. Exploratory factor analysis (EFA) is used to determine the factors in the first step. The next step is to conduct a multivariate regression analysis to determine the impact of these factors on the cooperative success variable in Indonesia.FindingsThe components produced include Member Participation, Membership, Cooperative Governance Structure, Board of co-ops, Vertical Integration, Collective Action and Transaction Cost, according to the EFA results. A further study utilizing multiple regression techniques reveals that four elements, namely Member Participation, Board of Coops, Vertical Integration and Collective Action, have a major impact on the performance of Indonesian cooperatives.Research limitations/implicationsGeneralizations are impossible because of the small sample size and restricted responders. More studies are required, using a broader range of respondents and approaches.Practical implicationsThe results of the study contributed both to the stakeholders of cooperatives and to the development of cooperative science specifically in the context of Indonesian cooperatives. Cooperative stakeholders in Indonesia must realize that members are owners and customers of their cooperative. This awareness must continue to be echoed by cooperatives to its members in various ways, so that commitment arises to members to be willing to participate and cooperate.
