Tracking and vertex detectors at FCC-ee

Abstract: The combined vertexing and tracking performance of the innermost part of the FCC-ee experiments must deliver outstanding precision for measurement of the track momentum together with an impact parameter resolution exceeding by at least a factor five that typically achieved at LHC experiments. Furthermore, precision measurements require stability and fiducial accuracy at a level which is unprecedented in collider experiments. For the innermost vertex layers these goals translate into a target hit resolution of … Show more

“…Integration of micro-channels directly in the active sensor wafer [247,248] offers the best possible cooling contact, with a thermal Figure-of-merit close to 1 K/W. Micro-channel cooling is being considered for FCC-ee [249], where a vertex detector with fast read-out could be positioned close to the beam. In combination with a relatively high-temperature cooling system based on super-critical CO 2 , it might offer a relatively low-mass solution, that brings 144 CHAPTER 6.…”

“…The position resolution of existing semiconductor pixel or microstrip detectors lies in the region of 10 μm, well suited to the current generation of high energy physics detectors. For future collider experiments, such as FCC-ee, individual hit resolution must be of the order of 3 μm [82] in order to allow achieving a combined vertex resolution of around 5 μm.…”
