“…The majority of the primary tracheal tumours are malignant (Pearson et al, 1984) and most of these are squamous and adenoid cystic carcinomas (Olmedo et al, 1982). Among the benign mesenchymal tumours the reported entities have included fibromas (Gilbert et al, 1953;MacLachlan, 1968), fibromyxoma (Pollak et al, 1985), fibrous histiocytoma (Sandstorm et al, 1978), granular cell tumour (Mikaelian etal., 1984), leiomyoma (Harris et al, 1967), and neurilemmoma (Horovitz etal., 1983). Paraganglioma (Liew etal., 1981), haemangiopericytoma (Ballard and Yarington, 1981) and hamartoma (Engelking, 1959) are also exceedingly rare lesions.…”

“…Benign Tumors of the Trachea A pure trachéal fibroma in a young child was completely removed by the combined procedure of bronchoscopic visualization and manipulation of the lesion on its pedicle with delivery through a tracheofissure. 7 A rare case of trachéal leiomyoma about 2 cm above the carina was diagnosed and treated endoscopically for approximately four years.8 Disagreement among the pathologists concerning possible malignant changes in the recurrent tumor prompted resection by thoracotomy which confirmed the benign nature of the lesion.…”
