“…Tissue concentration after 24 h of depuration was lower than tissue concentration at the end of the uptake period for all organ groups except the ROB ( p < 0.05). The ROB included the byssal threads, which are known to accumulate metals in higher concentrations than the soft tissues in marine bivalves. For example, saltwater Mytilus species from California had 238 U concentrations 10 times higher in their byssus compared to the average soft tissue concentration, and this 238 U was attributed predominately to the aqueous source . It has also been noted that byssus accumulation may potentially serve as a detoxification mechanism.…”

“…The determination of dissolved REEs was attained by the use of a seaFAST (Elemental Scientific) preconcentration module coupled on-line to an ICP-MS (7900, Agilent) (Romero-Freire et al, 2020). In order to produce narrower peaks and lower the analysis time, a 2 cm-long mini-column of 27 mL of volume (Global FIA) was used instead of the original default seaFAST 200 μL column.…”

“…(Sampaio et al, 2018). However, well-designed studies assessing the combined impacts of a suite of contaminants and multiple CC drivers are rare and the effects of changing pH in the interactions of metals complexed to organic ligands (Avendaño et al, 2016;Zhu et al, 2021) with marine organisms (Leal et al, 2018;Romero-Freire et al, 2020) are still lacking, although extremely important for the ocean productivity.…”
