Trace/Heavy Metal Accumulationin Soil and in the Shoots of Acacia Tree, Gümüşhane-Turkey

Abstract: In this study, heavy metal/trace element accumulation was investigated in soils along the road passing through Gümüshane city center and shoots of 1-2 years of acacia trees (Robinia pseudoacacia L.) grown in these soils. Heavy metal contents in soils and plants were analyzed by Enrichment Factor (EF), Geo-accumulation index (I geo ) parameters, and by Bio Accumulation Factor (BAF), respectively. According to geo-accumulation index (I geo ) data, it is seen that the soil was unpolluted in terms of Cr, Co, Cu, R… Show more

“…These units are called as the Alibaba formation in the region (Tokel, 1972). Alibaba formation is cut by the synchronous calc-alkaline granitoids (Eyüboğlu et al, 2011;Karslı et al, 2013) called the Gözeler granite (Vural, 2017(Vural, , 2014 which outcrops in close vicinity of the study area.…”

“…Although studies on natural resources and environmental problems arising from the exploration and exploitation of these resources have increased in recent years (7)(8)(9)(10), relatively few studies on the investigation of natural radiation activities of mineralization / mining areas that occur as a result of important geochemical and physicochemical processes have started to increase in recent years (11)(12)(13)(14)(15)(16). In real terms, environmental problems and their global effects date back to the beginning of the industrial revolution, but environmental awareness on a global scale gained importance after the second quarter of the 20th century (7,(17)(18)(19). Heavy metal pollution is one of the main environmental problems caused by industrialization (7,8,28,29,(20)(21)(22)(23)(24)(25)(26)(27).…”

“…Especially since the beginning of the 20th century, environmental problems brought about by rapid industrialization have been one of the most important issues that have given humanity a headache [2]. Human-induced heavy metal/trace element pollution has become a serious threat to terrestrial and aquatic systems [3][4][5][6][7]. The approach of utilizing natural resources in an environmentally friendly-sustainable development perspective continues with an increasing awareness after the 1980s [2,7].…”
