“…The meteorological data, including wind speed, humidity, temperature, and atmospheric pressure, during the field monitoring tests obtained from the local meteorological bureau are shown in Table 1 . It should be pointed out that extensive studies have demonstrated that the surface gas emission fluxes may exhibit prominent spatial and temporal variations as landfill gas emissions may be largely affected by waste age, cover types, components of wastes and landfill management strategies (Pierini et al 2018 ; Wang et al 2020 ; Duan et al 2021 ). The organic content, porosity and water distribution in cover soils can affect the reaction rate and migration of gases in the system.…”

“…Various household products, toxicants, pharmaceuticals and personal care products (PPCPs), batteries, and items with chemical coatings such as flame retardants are commonly discarded in landfills and are now ubiquitously present in waste . Numerous studies of the chemicals present in landfills and the associated run-off have also been linked with negative effects on the environment, wildlife, and human health including sicknesses and deaths. Landfill leachate is the liquid effluent from the discarded liquid wastes and accumulated precipitation that infiltrates the landfill and dissolves a myriad of organic and inorganic materials. Thus, the landfill leachate composition is influenced by the material discarded and waste age. , The chemical complexity is further compounded by anaerobic fermentation in young landfills, which produces free volatile fatty acids that comprise up to 95% of the young leachate organic composition. , As the volatile fatty acids further decompose to biogas in maturing landfills, the organic composition of leachate is dominated by nonbiodegradable, refractory compounds and humic substances that can interfere with disinfection by processes such as UV disinfection .…”

“…The authors reported the highest absorption flux of 1.61 × 10 −3 mol m −2 at 1.2 MPa and technical benefits of pressure and liquid flow rate resulting in much higher CO 2 flux and removal efficiency. Duan et al 42 analyzed the composition of trace gas generated from shredder waste cells, mixed waste cells, and aged waste cells in Denmark, reporting the highest concentration of 10 3 mg m −3 from shredder waste cells. Also, based on the proportional relationship between CH 4 in LFG and aromatic/aliphatic hydrocarbons, the production rates of benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylenes for Odense Nord and Glatved were estimated to be 272 and 73 kg per years, demonstrating harmlessness to human health.…”
