The present study aimed to investigate the associations between Decent Work (DW) and the Positivity and Life Satisfaction of Portuguese lawyers (N = 84). The Decent Work Questionnaire, the Positivity Scale and the Satisfaction With Life Scale were applied. The multiple regression linear analysis showed that: Fulfilling and productive work was an important antecedent of the Positivity, and that Fulfilling and productive work, Meaningful remuneration for the exercise of citizenship and Opportunities were antecedents of Satisfaction With Life. Then, the analysis of canonical correlations showed that six DW dimensions (exception for Social protection) were significant and positively related to Positivity and Satisfaction With Life. The perception of Decent Work is relevant to promoting Positivity and Satisfaction With Life for Portuguese lawyers. Limitations, practical implications, and future development prospects are presented in the final section.

Purpose The growing attention to business ethics, integrity and respect for human rights at work has become increasingly relevant. Decent work is an important concept representing the promotion of human rights at work and business, the fulfilling and productive work maintained with social dialogue. This study aims to present the adaptation and validation of the Spanish version of the Decent Work Questionnaire (DWQ), allowing the decent work assessment in Spanish. Initially developed and validated for Portuguese-speaking countries, the DWQ’s Italian version was also recently adapted and validated. Design/methodology/approach The 31-item scale was applied to a sample of 1,528 Spanish high-skilled workers. Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) was performed. Convergent and discriminant validity was tested, examining the links of the DWQ to Work Engagement and Burnout measures. Findings CFA confirmed the original higher-order model with seven factors, a very good model fit and good internal consistency reliability (α = 0.94). Statistical analyzes also supported its convergent and discriminant validity. Originality/value The results confirmed the DWQ’s Spanish version as a reliable and valid multidimensional measurement tool and strengthened it as a good cross-cultural measure of decent work.

Decent work is an integrative concept that may account for several labor-related issues. It represents the defence and promotion of human rights at work and business and the fulfilling and productive work maintained with social dialogue. Previous studies developed the Decent Work Questionnaire based on International Labor Organization propositions and workers' perceptions.The paper reports the adaptation and validation of its Italian version in a high-skilled workers sample (N = 1,465). Confirmatory factor analysis confirmed the original version's structural dimensions and good internal consistency reliability. Convergent and discriminant validity, tested using work engagement and personal burnout scales, were supported by the data. Therefore, the DWQ Italian version appears to yield reliable and valid data as a Decent Work measure in Italian workplaces.
