“…There is no doubt today about the multi-media global scale occurrence of organophosphate esters (OPEs) flame retardants and plasticizers in the marine environment. OPE have been found in air, water, sediment and aquatic organisms from different marine areas of the world (Zhong et al, 2017;Wei et al, 2015;Brandsma et al, 2015;Castro-Jiménez et al, 2014;Van der Veen andde Boer, 2012, Bollmann et al, 2012;Möller et al, 2011;Kim et al, 2011), including remote environments such as the Arctic (Ma et al, 2017; ., 2016a; Hallanger et al, 2015;Salamova et al, 2014a, Möller et al, 2012 and the most pristine areas from the tropical and subtropical Atlantic, Pacific and Indian oceans (Castro-Jiménez et al, 2016). In addition, most recent reports point to their environmental persistency, bioaccumulation and adverse effects in aquatic organisms and humans (ECHA 2008;2009; Van der Veen and de Boer, 2012; Wei et al, 2015;Wang et al, 2015a,b).…”
