Toxicity and growth inhibition potential of vetiver, cinnamon, and lavender essential oils and their blends against larvae of the sheep blowfly, Lucilia sericata

Abstract: Overall, cinnamon and vetiver oils (5%) were selected as reliable and cheap biopesticides for controlling larvae of L. sericata. The tested oils are inexpensive and represent new promising botanical insecticides in the fight against blowflies causing myiasis.

“…Many botanicals and their products are reported to have excellent effect against various diseases and particularly against coccidiosis as proven by different in vitro and in vivo studies (Abbas et al, , 2017a(Abbas et al, , 2017b(Abbas et al, , 2017cIdris et al, 2017;Khater et al, 2018;Mahmood et al, 2018). In present study like that of previous studies (Awais et al, 2014;Hong et al, 2016;Gadelhaq et al, 2018), in vivo anticoccidial effect of Trachyspermum ammi was measured in terms of different parameters such as feed conversion ratio, mortality rate, lesion, fecal and oocyst scores.…”

“…In contrast, there is a substantial body of work on the use of botanicals against larvae of these species. The same oils and the blends discussed here were evaluated recently against larval stages of the same strain of L. sericata (Khater et al 2018). The oils did not repel L2s from the treated liver but adversely affected their development.…”
