“…Depletion of metabolites and adaptive increase in antioxidative and detoxification enzymes have been described in pest insects exposed to EOs [ 114 , 122 , 123 , 124 , 125 , 126 ] and azadirachtin [ 127 , 128 ]. Similar results were obtained in studies dealing with the impact of Apiaceae EOs on insect pests [ 45 , 113 , 129 , 130 , 131 ]. In lepidopteran pests, S. frugiperda and Anticarsia gemmatalis Hübner limonene, carvon, estragol and anethol (compounds of anise, dill and fennel seed EOs) are detoxified by microsomal cytochrome P-450 monooxygenases [ 132 ].…”

“…Recently, the insecticidal activities of essential oils against R. dominica were reported: The significant fumigant toxicity of essential oil extracted from Satureja intermedia C. A. Mey was revealed against the adults Plants 2022, 11, 1567 2 of 17 of R. dominica which positively depended on the concentration of the essential oil and the exposure times [11]. In another study, along with considerable lethality, the fumigation with Anethum graveolens L. and Melaleuca cajuputi Powell essential oils resulted in significant reduction in total protein and detoxifying enzymes (esterases and glutathione-S-transferase) activity of R. dominica adults [12]. According to the study of Tine et al [13], R. dominica adults were susceptible to the essential oil of Lavandula angustifolia L., in which along with fumigant toxicity, the essential oil decreased α-amylase and protease activities of treated adults.…”

“…Tripathi et al [46]; Isikber et al [41] have been reported similar results. Several plant essential oils exhibit feeding deterrence, acute toxicity, repellency and developmental disruption in many storage insect pests due to the complex combinations of monoterpenoids and allied phenolic compounds present in essential oils [52][53][54][55]. β-pinene has been reported to exhibit strong toxicity and repellent activity against T. castaneum adults [56].…”
