“…The OECD guideline discourage the testing of doses higher than 2000 mg/kg and recommends that this should only be considered when there is a strong likelihood that results of such a test have a direct relevance for protecting human or animal health (OECD, 2001). This was not the case in the present study because two other studies conducted with E. velutina described the oral LD50 of the AE from leaves of this species as being higher than 5000 mg/kg (Bonfim, 2001;Craveiro et al, 2008). Taken together the LD50 results suggest that species from the genus Erythrina found in Brazil may have low acute toxicity.…”
