Towards The Evaluation of OSS Trustworthiness: Lessons Learned From The Observation of Relevant OSS Projects

Abstract: Abstract. To facilitate the adoption of open-source software (OSS) in industry, it is important to provide potential users (i.e., those who could decide to adopt OSS) with the means for evaluating the trustworthiness of OS products. This paper presents part of the work done in the QualiPSo project for this purpose. A set of factors that are believed to affect the perception of trustworthiness are introduced. In order to test the feasibility of deriving a correct, complete and reliable evaluation of trustworthin… Show more

“…Moreover, in another recent work, [6] we ran another survey to identify the recent motivations for the adoption of OSS and also in this case, the opinions were also considered as important. Results are also confirmed by several empirical study such as [7][8][9][10][11][12][13]. The idea of using opinion mining techniques have been proposed in several work [13,14] Based on the aforementioned work, we believe that the investigation of an automated opinion extraction tool would be valuable for OSS users [6].…”

“…The first category converts the software trustworthiness measurements into the selection, measures, and synthesis of trustworthy attributes. Representative ones include axiomatic approaches [4][5][6][7]11], dynamic system [12], evidence theory [13], data mining [14], uncertain theory [15][16], Bayesian Networks [17], questionnaire survey and statistical analysis [18][19], and so on.…”

“…In 2009, Del Bianco et al provided an evidence-based models for the evaluating OSS trustworthiness based on objective measures of OSS [19,[21][22][23]. They collected 100 questionnaires, containing 722 product evaluations [8].…”
