Towards the Development of Syngas/Biomethane Electrolytic Production, Using Liquefied Biomass and Heterogeneous Catalyst

Abstract: This paper presents results on the research currently being carried out with the objective of developing new electrochemistry-based processes to produce renewable synthetic fuels from liquefied biomass. In the current research line, the gas mixtures obtained from the typical electrolysis are not separated into their components but rather are introduced into a reactor together with liquefied biomass, at atmospheric pressure and different temperatures, under acidified zeolite Y catalyst, to obtain synthesis gas.… Show more

“…Time-resolved in situ diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier transform spectroscopy (in situ DRIFTS) were also conducted to gain the insights into CO 2 adsorption. As shown in Supplementary Materials Figure S5, the CO 2 interaction with Au/In 2 O 3 -ZrO 2 prefers to produce carbonate species rather than bicarbonate species due to the change of intensities [37]. The bicarbonate species disappears much faster after the Ar desorption, especially over the Au/In 2 O 3 sample.…”

“…In 2021, global coal consumption reached 160.1 exajoules (EJ), showing the highest increase (6.3%) since 2014 and accounting for 26.9% of primary energy consumption. 57,58 The coal coking process, known for its energy-intensive, high energy consumption, and high pollution risk nature, suffers from low energy efficiency and inefficient production practices. 59,60 One valuable byproduct of the coking process in coke production is raw coke oven gas, mainly composed of H 2 , CH 4 , CO, and minor amounts of CO 2 , O 2 , and N 2 .…”
