The paradigm of sustainable energy is gaining ground at the historical juncture of the present worldwide push for sustainable development. This is being driven by the latest technological advancements and by a maturing process of public policy evolution toward support for a sustainable energy transition. This paper analyzes, with the support of bibliometric analysis, the specialized literature in order to capture the main themes of interest, as well as their evolution, thus offering a panoramic view of research trends and the significance of implementing correct environmental measures and policies. Covering the period from 1991 to 2024, our exploration filters 2990 articles from the Web of Science database using a query that intersects “sustainable energy”, “renewable energy”, and “sustainable development”, with a nuanced consideration of the political landscape that shapes these domains. Using the advanced capabilities of the R program, the methodology employed facilitates a nuanced workflow of extraction and analysis, allowing for a detailed examination of the proliferation of research over the decades. This paper provides significant results, demonstrating the increasing impact of research through international collaborations, the importance of high-impact journals on sustainability policies, and the growing focus on “renewable energy” and “CO2 emissions”. The analysis of the relevance of term groups in environmental policy development and the correlation between economic growth and CO2 emissions confirms emerging trends. Furthermore, critical directions for future research and the necessity for formulating and implementing coherent sustainability policies are highlighted.

Corporations that prioritize Environment, Social, and Governance (ESG) considerations tend to have a more sustainable approach to business operations with a lower impact on the environment and society. Extant literature is available on the impact of ESG on firm performance, risk-taking, profitability, the cost of capital, cash flows, and default risk. However, very little is known about the role of ESG performance in shaping the current and future value of a corporation. Similarly, hi-tech firms, being a part of the rapidly growing sector of the world, are facing greater scrutiny from investors, regulators, and consumers to demonstrate their commitment to sustainability and social responsibility. This paper investigates the effect of ESG performance on the corporate present and future value of top global tech leaders for a period of eight years (2010 to 2017). Panel data techniques such as the fixed effects model and random effects model based on the Hausman test were used to observe this relationship. Earnings per share (EPS) and the price-to-earnings ratio (PE ratio) were used as a measure of firm current and future value, respectively. The results revealed that ESG has a significantly positive association with both proxies of corporate value of the top global tech companies. However, as compared to EPS, it had a more pronounced impact on the PE ratio of the sampled firms. Unlike many earlier studies that claimed that the ESG score impacts firm performance in the corresponding period, the present research is novel, as it asserts that investors are not only benefiting from firms’ higher investment in ESG through an increase in EPS but are also highly optimistic about the future performance of the firm and thus are paying more for each dollar of earnings. These finding contribute to the existing body of literature on the ESG and firm value nexus and are supported by the stakeholder theory of corporate social responsibility. Thus, policymakers for the tech sector should pay keen attention to firms’ ESG performance to earn the long-term trust of shareholders.

The internet is a valuable resource in a technologically evolved society. The extant literature suggests that their scientific and educational usages are still limited. The current study asserts that the internet can provide new learning environments and opportunities for Chinese university students, hence increasing their motivation to learn. Particularly, the current study considers this to be the case for learning a foreign language (English), which leads to more efficient and effective language learning experiences, as well as more positive attitudes toward the efficiency of the internet for educational purposes. Purposive and convenience sampling techniques were employed to gather data from 15 public and private Chinese universities (406 students), those who are currently enrolled in English language courses. The analysis was performed using partial least squares-structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) on smart PLS 4 software. Results revealed that student’s attitude toward the use of internet positively and significantly influence English language learning. Moreover, the mediating variable academic self-efficacy positively and significantly mediates the relationship between students’ attitude toward use of internet and English language learning. The current study recommends that students’ academic self-efficacy in learning a new language can be enhanced by giving them opportunities to learn internet skills. Further, students’ confidence in their academic abilities can be boosted using student-centered teaching strategies.
