“…Nevertheless, smart cities -still today-represent a concept that is under evolvement, largely focusing on the 'modernist' aspects of development, failing to address the cultural and historical aspects of the city and to assign new meanings to people and places (Allam and Newman 2018). In general lines, a static approach to heritage and culture is adopted in contemporary innovation strategies, neglecting the potential of advanced Information and Communication Technology (ICT) tools to render citizens and visitors as equal co-creators and co-consumers of cultural experiences (Trinchini and Spyriadis 2019).
