Over recent years, employee-driven innovation (EDI) has emerged as a prominent topic in both practical and academic circles. Particularly in economic-oriented organizations seeking growth, there is an increasing trend to involve “ordinary” employees—those whose primary responsibilities do not traditionally include innovation tasks—in the innovation process. These employees are tapped for their creativity and experience in the hope that they will generate innovative ideas beneficial to the organization. Consequently, EDI is increasingly acknowledged as a significant source of competitive edge, with employees often seen as initiating innovators that complement traditional channels, such as formal research and development departments. Despite the growing body of research in the interdisciplinary field of EDI and the interplay of multiple perspectives and effect areas, a comprehensive overview remains elusive. In this article, we conduct a systematic literature review to expose the vast effect areas of EDI, focusing on the micro (employee) and meso (organizational) levels. We identified four effect areas at the micro-level and seven at the mesolevel. Our research enhances the understanding of the multi-layered components of EDI and provides insights and implications for academics and practitioners aiming to harness its potential.

In today's rapidly evolving and highly competitive business environment, effective management of employee-generated ideas is a critical element for organisational innovation and growth. This paper presents a comprehensive literature review that consolidates the historical development and evolutionary trajectory of employee idea management practices. The journey of employee idea management can be traced from basic suggestion boxes to cutting-edge digital platforms and AI-driven systems, encompassing theoretical foundations, technological advancements and organisational implications. Understanding this trajectory enables organisations to adapt to changing trends and develop sustainable strategies that promote innovation and continuous improvement. To secure long-term success, organisations can acquire valuable knowledge for fostering a culture of idea sharing and innovation by combining the narratives of historical development and contemporary innovation.

The European project was borne out of the strong desire of Western European politicians to root out wars and create peace and prosperity in Europe in the post-war period. With the Eastern enlargement of the EU, this mission seemed completed. However, a series of crises starting in 2008 with the Global Financial Crisis revealed many pressing problems in the European integration process. The EU needs to adapt to the new geopolitical and geoeconomic realities while it should take new initiatives to make European integration fair and sustainable. In this paper, using a new conceptual framework, we analyse the factors that hinder fairness and sustainability in the EU and suggest broad directions for reforms that can promote the European integration process.
