Towards architecture-centric evolution of long-living systems (the ADVERT approach)

Abstract: Although an intensive research attention has been paid to software evolution, there is no established approach which supports a software development and evolution round-trip between requirements, design decisions, architectural elements, and code. The ADVERT approach shall provide support for software evolution on an architectural level. AD-VERT is based on two core ideas: (1) Maintaining trace links between requirements, design decisions, and architecture elements, and (2) explicitly integrating software arch… Show more

“…As appropriate SW architectures are crucial to ensure high SW quality and to enable reusability [4], [14], they are discussed in the following. The SW architecture describes "the general structure of a system, usually expressed in components, interfaces and their interconnection" [15].…”

“…For instance, Archium aims primarily at capturing architectural decisions and weaving them into the development process, that is, binding them with models and system implementation [28]. Also, the ADVERT approach targets the capturing of pattern-specific ADDs with their rationale along with decision-relevant requirements, quality attributes, and architectural elements [29]. In our previous work, we have integrated ADDs modeled in CoCoADvISE tool with architectural views, in particular, component-and-connector views [14].…”
