ResumenEste artículo muestra la evolución de los sistemas de automatización para el hogar; la aparición de ios estándares Zigbee, KNX y el protocolo X1O. Recopila varios proyectos domóticos orientados a la asistencia del adulto mayor y explica la contribución de estos a su independencia. También se realiza una comparación de ios estándares bajo diferentes parámetros y se concluye que para implementar estos proyectos es mejor la utilización de sensores y actuadores inalámbricos por no ser intrusivos. Siendo Zigbee la mejor opción por su costo, ahorro de energía, alcance, adaptabilidad, interoperabilidad y escalabilidad. En base a los casos de éxito mostrados y necesidades de los usuarios se proponen requerimientos mínimos para hogares inteligentes que brinden mayor independencia al adulto mayor. AbstractThis article shows the evolution of automation systems for home; the emergence of Zigbee, KNX and X1O protocol standards. Collects various automation projects aimed at assisting the elderly and explains the contribution of these to their independence. A comparison of the standards under different parameters is also performed and concludes that to implement these projects systems with wireless sensors and actuators are used for not being intrusive. Zigbee being the best choice for its low cost, energy saving, scope, adaptability, interoperability and scalability. Based on the success stories shown and user needs minimum requirements for smart homes that provide greater indepenclence for the elderly are proposed.

This paper presents a system architecture to support remote access to mobile embedded healthcare systems during development and use. It describes the system architecture developed to allow remote debugging, configuration and monitoring of mobile healthcare systems as well as the prototypes that have been developed to explore the architecture. The architecture has been applied in a concrete wearable embedded healthcare system for treatment of leg venous insufficiency through compression therapy.

Chronic heart failure (CHF) is among the major causes of hospitalization for elderly citizens. Its considerable impact on patient quality of life, the resources congestion, and the related costs can be efficiently mitigated using remote wireless biosensors networks placed at patient home, able to communicate in secure way over the public Internet with the cardiology departmental Hospital Information System (HIS). In this way, physicians can monitor the situation of several patients at distance and quickly realize and act alterations in vital parameters. In this scenario, the Health@Home (H@H) platform is conceived. The pool of Bluetooth sensors enables patients to daily collect vital signs at home in noninvasive fashion. A home gateway receives and processes all signals before sending them to a server node in charge of interfacing with the usual HIS. The novel concept of operating protocol (OP) represents a list of actions, remotely configurable, that the domestic network has to follow (required measurements, transmissions, comparisons with personalized thresholds, etc.). The first medical tests on 30 patients (1 month) allowed to verify the model, both from the patient and the medical perspective. The main evaluation metrics were usability, flexibility, and reliability of the communication from sensors to HIS.
