Towards an automated tool to evaluate the impact of the nuclear modification of the gluon density on quarkonium, D and B meson production in proton–nucleus collisions

Abstract: We propose a simple and model-independent procedure to account for the impact of the nuclear modification of the gluon density as encoded in nuclear collinear PDF sets on two-to-two partonic hard processes in protonnucleus collisions. This applies to a good approximation to quarkonium, D and B meson production, generically referred to H. Our procedure consists in parametrising the square of the parton scattering amplitude, A gg→HX and constraining it from the proton-proton data. Doing so, we have been able to … Show more

“…This calculation for p-Pb collisions underpredicts the measured values by a similar amount as observed in pp collisions. The Λ c cross section is also compared with a calculation [94], based on a data-driven modelling of the scattering at the partonic level, specifically designed to evaluate the impact of the nuclear modification of the gluon density on heavy-flavor hadrons.…”

“…Similar predictions were obtained with Herwig7. The p-Pb measurement is compared then in figure 11 (left) with the calculations from Lansberg and Shao [94] for p-Pb, with Λ + c and D 0 cross section obtained through a parameterisation of pp data and using EPS09NLO nuclear modification factors. Among the different predictions this calculation is the closest to data.…”

“…The measured R pAu is generally consistent with the R dAu result reported by PHENIX [14] within uncertainties. The theoretical predictions with only the nuclear PDF effect using the nCTEQ15 [15] or EPS09NLO [16] nuclear PDFs sets can touch the upper limit of the data. However, the calculation including an additional nuclear absorption effect [17] is favored by the data.…”
