Towards an Ashtekar formalism in 12 dimensions

Abstract: We discuss the Ashtekar formalism from the point of view of 12 dimensions. We first focus on the 2 + 10 spacetime signature and then we consider the transition 2 + 10 → (2 + 2) + (0 + 8). We argue that both sectors 2 + 2 and 0 + 8, which are exceptional signatures, can be analyzed from the point of view of a self-dual action associated with the Ashtekar formalism. Keywords Ashtekar theory · 12 dimensions · Two time physics Over the years it has become clear that considering gravitational and gauge theories with… Show more

“…In this sense, the classical approach of Ashtekar formalism in eight dimensions proposed in Refs. [13]- [15] has some kind of uniqueness. In this work we give some steps forward on the program of developing quantum gravity in eight dimensions.…”

“…Higher dimensional Ashtekar formalism has shown to be a promising proposal [1][2][3][4][5] (see also Ref. [6][7][8][9][10]). The main physical reason for this is that it allows a possible connection with string theory [11]; an alternative approach for quantum gravity.…”

“…The general belief is that self-dual gravity makes sense only in four dimensions since in this case the dual of a two form (the curvature) is again a two form. However, there are a number of evidences that self-dual gravity can also be implemented in eight dimensions [5][6][7][8]. It turns out that even in four dimensions selfdual gravity does not determine the signature of the "space-time".…”
