Towards an agent based traffic regulation and recommendation system for the on-road air quality control

Abstract: This paper presents an integrated and adaptive problem-solving approach to control the on-road air quality by modeling the road infrastructure, managing traffic based on pollution level and generating recommendations for road users. The aim is to reduce vehicle emissions in the most polluted road segments and optimizing the pollution levels. For this we propose the use of historical and real time pollution records and contextual data to calculate the air quality index on road networks and generate recommendati… Show more

“…In Morocco, exceedance of WHO air quality guideline values was frequently observed in heavy traffic zones [ 56 , 57 ], industrial zones, and in cities known by their important economic activities [ 57 ]. Moreover, due to the geographical position of the country, the natural process involving Sahara dust is an additive factor contributing to the increase in pollution precisely by PM 10 [ 58 ].…”

“…To manage traffic based on pollution levels, model the road infrastructure, and generate suggestions for road users, [19] developed a comprehensive and flexible approach to issue solving strategy involves calculating the impact of road networks' the state of the air index and producing suggestions for rerouting traffic to improve the air quality on the roads. Contextual data and historical and current pollution records are used to do this.…”

“…This result means that the majority of the published studies are still very theoretical. A first interesting application system is proposed by Sadiq et al [71]. The purpose of their model is to regulate the traffic, in order to optimize pollution level while maximize the vehicle flow.…”
