Towards Achieving Food Security in Nigeria: A Fuzzy Comprehensive Assessment of Heavy Metals Contamination in Organic Fertilizers

Abstract: In the quest towards achieving the Zero hunger agenda of the sustainable development goals by 2030, the utilization of organic fertilizers, for soil amendment purposes, has been posited as a feasible alternative for overcoming the negative impacts of inorganic fertilizers. Despite its manifold benefits, the use of untreated and improperly treated organic materials in agricultural production is however capable of introducing toxic metals in the soil-plant systems causing health and agro-environmental impacts. I… Show more

“…Nature is having a hard time where human activities, global environmental changes, habitat loss and species extinction often lead to a loss of biodiversity. For example, habitat fragmentation and population decline could reduce the effective population size and threaten the viability of the target species (Falk and Holsinger, 1991;Paul et al 2021;Salami et al 2021;Wasana et al 2021). Many biologists argue that establish correct conservation strategies minimizing biodiversity lossand a good example is conserve geographically-rare species (Esfandani-Bozchaloyi et al, 2018a, 2018b, 2918c, 2018d.…”

“…The comprehensive assessment method is a quantitative approach to comprehensively evaluate the research objective by integrating various indicators. This method has been frequently used in previous studies on food security (e.g., Salami et al, 2021; Workie et al, 2020). It is also widely used in other fields, such as SDGs and sustainable urbanization (e.g., Shen et al, 2017; Xu et al, 2020; Zhou et al, 2015).…”
