Towards a Reliable, Wide-Area Infrastructure for Context-Based Self-management of Communications

Abstract: Abstract. In this paper we describe ConStruct, a distributed, contextaggregation based service infrastructure which supports the development of context-aware applications. ConStruct operates by automatically generating and maintaining directed context-processing graphs which connect applications to the sources of data they require at a relevant level of abstraction. The infrastructure also supports the dynamic creation of context processing elements to bridge gaps between available and requested information. C… Show more

“…Many approaches to awareness, such as iQL [3] and ConStruct [15], derive directly from The Context Toolkit: a highly influential framework supporting context awareness in small scale environments [4]. In these frameworks, applications use a well known discovery service to select and combine resources (e.g., sensors or aggregators) in a pipeand-filter style according to semantic descriptions of their required inputs and outputs.…”

“…The sensors have some descriptive credentials that they advertise when they join the system and these can be used to appropriately direct their messages, e.g. the Construct context middleware system [19].…”

“…We limit our discussion to the analysis and interpretation of these data as recognizable human acts, rather than the recognition of such acts from basic sensor data, as addressed in other context processing and sensor fusion systems for pervasive computing, e.g. [6] [19] [1].…”
