Towards a fast enterprise ontology based method for post merger integration

Abstract: Our research program aims at finding and testing method components for deciding on and implementing organizational splits and mergers. We tested a method to timely detect design & migration issues of a Post Merger Integration. Using actors from Enterprise Ontology as organization building blocks for two large operationally merging airliners, experts systematically listed per actor (a) its organizational implementations, (b) its Quality of Business and (c) its IT implementations. The drafted DEMO Construction M… Show more

“…The application of the method to a complex process is similar but as expected entails a lengthier analysis. Nevertheless, the DEMO ontological models have proven to offer a significant reduction of complexity compared to the corresponding implementation models when applied to large real business processes [14][15][16]. The next sections show the application of each step of the method to this example.…”

“…The high level of abstraction also considerably reduces model documentation [51]. For example, DEMO was recently used to assist in the merger of the cargo divisions of Air France and KLM [52]. The essential model of the joint cargo divisions of Air France and KLM consisted of 49 transactions and 46 actors, thereby providing a concise model of the organization [52].…”

“…A series of case studies [e.g., 16,22,23] of real-life reorganizations, organizational splits, post-merger integration and application portfolio rationalization has been published, in which DEMO is the core modeling method to support decision-making. These studies also report a tremendous ROME (Return On Modeling Effort).…”
