Toward decolonizing Muslim geographic epistemologies
Hulya Arik
Abstract:In this commentary, I engage with the epistemic direction that Sidaway suggests geographers should take to decolonize Muslim geographies. Instead, I argue that geography will benefit from closing the gap with the anthropology of Islam where similar questions have long been debated following the influential work of Talal Asad and his conceptualization of Islam as a ‘discursive tradition’.
