Abstract:A combined X-ray micro-computed tomography (XMT) and micro-Finite Element Analysis study is presented to quantify the effects of micro-scale random fiber distributions on the effective (homogenized) elastic properties of unidirectional (UD) yarns, as often used by designers for component-level computational modelling of composite structures. In addition, it is shown how the XMT artefacts can yield unreliable FE homogenization of the composite yarns by overestimating the stress transfer capacity between the mat… Show more
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
