Objective: The scholarly dissemination of innovative medical education practices helps broaden the reach of this type of work, allowing scholarship to have an impact beyond a single institution. There is little guidance in the literature for those seeking to publish program evaluation studies and innovation papers. This study aims to derive a set of evidence-based features of high-quality reports on innovations in emergency medicine (EM) education. Methods: We conducted a scoping review and thematic analysis to determine quality markers for medical education innovation reports, with a focus on EM. A search of MEDLINE, EMBASE, ERIC, and Google Scholar was augmented by a hand search of relevant publication guidelines, guidelines for authors, and website submission portals from medical education and EM journals. Study investigators reviewed the selected articles, and a thematic analysis was conducted. Results: Our search strategy identified 14 relevant articles from which 34 quality markers were extracted. These markers were grouped into seven important themes: goals and need for innovation, preparation, innovation development, innovation implementation, evaluation of innovation, evidence of reflective practice, and reporting and dissemination. In addition, multiple outlets for the publication of EM education innovations were identified and compiled. Conclusion: The publication and dissemination of innovations are critical for the EM education community and the training of health professionals. We anticipate that our list of innovation report quality markers will be used by EM education innovators to support the dissemination of novel educational practices. Inleiding: Aios leren door en van ervaringenBij de modernisering van de medisch specialistische vervolgopleidingen introduceerde het Centraal College Medische Specialismen (CCMS) twee nieuwe begrippen: competenties en actief leren. 2 Eindtermen werden geformuleerd in competenties: clusters van vaardigheden, kennis, attitude, eigenschappen en inzichten. Dit voedde het besef dat het verwerven ervan in handen ligt van de lerende arts in opleiding tot specialist (aios) zelf. Het kunnen ontwikkelen van competenties maakt bovendien onderdeel uit van de competentiegebieden 'Kennis en wetenschap' en 'Professionaliteit' (twee van de zeven eindtermdomeinen 3 voor elke opleiding).Voor een uitwerking van het actieve leren werd aansluiting gezocht bij onderwijskundige theorieën over ervaringsleren 4 , die ontwikkeld zijn in het volwassenenonderwijs. Hierbij staat in het cyclisch karakter van het leren in de praktijk 5 het ervaren centraal. Voorafgaand aan het handelend ervaren, leert de aios bijvoorbeeld door middel van zelfstudie, waarbij een beroep kan worden gedaan op uitleg en instructie van een supervisor. Na de ervaring leert de aios als hij terugblikt. 6 Van de aios wordt dus een actieve houding verwacht, gericht op het opdoen van ervaring en het ervan leren. Voor de opleidende stafleden is een meer faciliterende, coachende rol weggelegd, waarbij de nadruk ligt op wat de 'model-en feedbackfunctie' 7 wordt genoemd.Een ander kenmerk van het leren van volwassenen is dat lerenden, op basis van reeds opgedane ervaring met leren, in staat zijn in bepaalde mate het leerproces zelf te sturen. Het is de opgave in de meester-gezel relatie tegelijk met de inhoudelijke vaardigheden en kennis, ook het leervermogen tot zelfstandig leren te ontwikkelen. 8 Dit gebeurt door het leren zelf bewust te reguleren. Hiertoe plannen aios relevante en samenhangende leerac- SamenvattingIn verschillende opleidingsregio's volgen artsen in opleiding tot specialist (aios) een training die hen aanmoedigt om actief in hun opleiding te staan en zelf meer regie te voeren over het leren en de eigen ontwikkeling. Het is één van de antwoorden op de uitdagingen die de modernisering van de vervolgopleidingen met zich meebrengt. Met een beschrijving van verschillende trainingen laten we zien welke overwegingen speelden en hoe keuzes zijn gemaakt in de aanloop en uitwerking. We geven aan wat wij leren 1 van eerste ervaringen en of de gekozen aanpak ook voor anderen interessant is. De conclusie kan worden getrokken dat de trainingen door aios zeer worden gewaardeerd en dat er spin-off is op het implementatieproces van de modernisering.
