Toward a robot swarm protecting a group of migrants

Abstract: Different geopolitical conflicts of recent years have led to mass migration of several civilian populations. These migrations take place in militarized zones, indicating real danger contexts for the populations. Indeed, civilians are increasingly targeted during military assaults. Defense and security needs have increased; therefore, there is a need to prioritize the protection of migrants. Very few or no arrangements are available to manage the scale of displacement and the protection of civilians during migr… Show more

“…5) Specific Applications: Some research focuses on specific applications of swarm robotics. For example, [55] discusses self-organized flocking mechanisms for applications like agri-robotics, [53] addresses swarm protection systems for migrants in dangerous territories, and [56] introduces a mobile robot designed for inspecting confined environments. These studies highlight the potential of swarm robotics in addressing specific challenges and offer insights into the design and implementation of specialized systems.…”

“…Vaidis and Otis [47] created a swarm which is capable of adapting it shape according to the displacement of a group of migrants. The main purpose of this swarm is to protect these people from an attack when there are moving.…”

“…e problem of exploring an unknown environment with a team 2 Complexity of robots was modelled as an ST-SR problem in [25], where the selection of targets by the robots was dependent on distance and utility. In recent years, deep-learning techniques have been utilized to a great deal in the MRTA community for exploration, path-planning, and cooperation between several robotics systems [26]. For example, a deep Q-network algorithm was proposed in [27] which focused on improving the learning efficiency.…”
