Toward a Better FutureBy now, it should be clear that voting has many benefits and that facilitating participation in the electoral process is consistent with our role as social workers. If we are serious about social justice and client well-being, we need to actively participate in engaging, educating, and mobilizing voters. This chapter focuses on what social workers can do to safeguard the right to vote and facilitate widespread engagement in the voting process. It discusses legal and ethical constraints on voting-related activity and identifies strategies to promote a culture of civic engagement within the social work profession, the agencies where we work, and the communities where we live.
