Tourisme et dynamiques démographiques : des relations multiples, denses et mal connues

Abstract

Tourism and Demographic Processes : Multiple, Dense and Badly Known Relationships. Tourist development reflects on the demographic processes of the host places. It brings about the creation of new sanitary facilities, favours the diffusion of new behaviours regarding health and reproduction, while polarizing the migratory flows. Yet those demographic effects of tourism often quoted in the literature are seldom studied in depth. In the same way, the influence of the demographic processes on tourism is rarely dealt with in the scientific literature. To introduce the present issue of Espace Populations Sociétés, this article presents the different facets of the relationships between tourism and demographic processes within the sender and receiver spaces, and illustrates them through some examples from the literature.
