Total oxidant capacity, total antioxidant capacity, ischemic modified albumin, microRNA levels, and their relationship with psoriasis area and severity index

Abstract: Aims To examine the differences in the levels of microRNA, ischemic modified albumin (IMA), total oxidant capacity (TOC), and total antioxidant capacity (TAC) of persons with and without psoriasis and, in the case group, the relationship between these parameters and psoriasis area and severity index (PASI). Methods Blood samples were collected from patients and healthy participants to examine levels of these parameters. Results The mean serum TOC level was higher in the case group. The mean serum TAC and I… Show more

“…Studies conducted to date indicate that a body mass index (BMI) of 26-29 kg/m 2 slightly increases the risk of psoriasis, while a body mass index (BMI) > 29 kg/m 2 significantly increases the risk of the disease. At the same time, a reduction in body weight results in an alleviation of symptoms [20,21]. Hsieh et al showed that reducing caloric intake from food by one third for 4 weeks resulted in a reduction in excessive epidermal proliferation by 45% in a mouse model [22].…”
