Total monitoring of the constituents of Danshen tablet using micellar electrokinetic chromatography fingerprinting for antioxidant activity profiling

Abstract: A micellar electrokinetic chromatography fingerprint coupled with quantification was developed for assessing the quality consistency of Danshen tablets, a traditional Chinese medicine, with pharmacological activities of activating blood to remove blood stasis and regulating the flow of vital energy to alleviate pain. Square optimization method was proposed to select the suitable background electrolyte. Subsequently, the index of chromatographic fingerprints F was simultaneously employed as an objective functio… Show more

“…First, sample and reference fingerprint vectors are respectively converted into Ts=false(x1y1,x2y2,xnynfalse) and Tr=false(y1y1,y2y2,ynynfalse)=false(1,1,11false), the cosine of the two vectors after the conversion is denoted as the qualitative ratio similarity (SF), as calculated by Eq. . This conversion makes all the peaks in the same range.…”

“…The concentration of the running buffer can affect ionic strength which in turn will affect separation behaviour including migration time, resolution, peak shape and running current. In this work, different concentrations of borate solution (15,20 and 25 mM) were tested with Typically, pH of running buffer plays a prominent role in the separation selectivity as it affects both analyte ionisation and the velocity of EOF. In this study, the effect of pH on the separation was explored in the range between 8.00 and 10.50 (at intervals of 0.50).…”

“…For the past decades, capillary electrophoresis (CE) has been increasingly regarded as a promising technique for the quality control of herbal drugs because it introduces numerous attractive advantages such as high resolving power, short analysis time, less consumption of solvents, ultra-small sample requirements, simple preparation of sample and low operating cost. 15 These features are beneficial in separating natural compounds with complicated matrices. 16 CE is capable of analysing different types of analytes according to their molecular weight, charge amount in buffer solution, hydrophobicity and chirality by its various modes of operations.…”
