Total Hip Arthroplasty for Posttraumatic Conditions

Abstract: Posttraumatic arthritis accounts for a notable share of secondary osteoarthritis about the hip joint. Compared with total hip arthroplasty for primary osteoarthritis or inflammatory arthritis, total hip arthroplasty for posttraumatic arthritis offers greater technical challenges because of bone deformities and retained implants. Careful preoperative evaluation is necessary to prepare the approach, hardware removal strategy, and implants necessary to address bone deficiencies. Although arthroplasty is a highly … Show more

“…Computational and Mathematical Methods in Medicine high incidence of underlying disorders, which may have a major influence on the patients' later lives. As a result, for individuals with surgical problems, vigorous surgical therapy is clinically suggested [15,16]. The current clinical treatment measures for femoral neck fracture can be divided into three main categories: nonoperative treatment, internal fixation, and artificial hip replacement [17], among which nonoperative treatment is mainly applied to incomplete fracture or mild symptoms, and the applicable group is mostly young patients.…”

“…Fractures of the neck of the femur can occur in older people as a result of slight external forces due to osteoporosis and increased brittleness of the bone in old age, making it the most common condition in older people with a high mortality and disability rate [ 3 ]. Total hip arthroplasty (THA) has become a familiar diagnosis and treatment method for orthopedic joint diseases, especially total hip and knee joint replacement [ 4 ]. However, due to the physiological particularity of the elderly, the functional recovery of the bones of patients after fracture is often poor [ 5 ].…”

“…The clinical manifestations are pain, tenderness, stiffness, joint swelling, limited movement, and joint deformity ( Xia et al, 2014 ; Vincent, 2019 ). Many patients undergo total joint arthroplasty for pain relief and joint function recovery ( Robinson et al, 2018 ; Lu and Phillips, 2019 ). In the United States, 22.7 million activity limitations have been attributed to arthritis, especially to OA ( Frieden et al, 2010 ), and OA also brings a large economic burden to society.…”
